Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am Mrs. Claudia, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I would like to welcome you and your child to 1st grade and to Fairview Elementary. First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This year is filled with many important transitions. During first grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more! I hope to make your child’s first grade year a fun and exciting year.

Important notes

  • Look through your child’s take home folder each day. There will be important information and notes, spelling lists, calendars, graded work and homework assignments.
  • Please read with your child every day!
  • Go over spelling words daily. ( We will not start spelling for a few weeks).
  • Please take time to discuss classroom rules and behavior policy with your child.
  • Read library books together.
  • Celebrate your child’s successes, no matter how small they may seem.

  • Enter the school through the bus ramp entrance by the office. Students may not enter through any other outside door in the school. Temperatures must be taken upon arrival.
  • Students go to class at 7:50 a.m. Your child must sign in if they arrive after 8:00 a.m. or he/she will be counted absent for the day.
  • Your child will need his her backpack, folder, and reading book EVERY day.
  • Please put all names on all jackets and on all supplies.

We will begin homework shortly after school begins. Your child will have a homework calendar that explains each night’s assignment. Please check this calendar and complete all assignments for each night. Please place homework back in the folder to be returned to school the next day.

Send your child a snack and drink each day. Please note there are no soft drinks allowed at school. If you would like to send in extra snacks occasionally to share with the class it would be greatly appreciated.
Ice cream will be available to purchase during your child’s snack time. The cost is 0.50.

I can’t emphasize enough the importance of your child’s prompt and regular attendance at school. Most learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. It is nearly impossible to make up all missed work at home.

Class Rules/Discipline
In order to provide students with an excellent learning environment, we have established the following class rules.

  • Listen while the teacher is talking.
  • Follow directions quickly.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Raise your hand to speak or stand.
  • Be safe, be kind, be honest
  • Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school

I am very pleased to have the opportunity to be your child’s teacher. I love children and enjoy teaching very much. I am always available to meet or speak with you. You may write a note, email, or send a message through the remind app and I will respond as soon as possible. My planning is from 1:45-2:30. In return I will contact you by note, email or telephone if there is something I would like to discuss. This year will be very different then previous years. Please check your child’s temperatures before they leave in the mornings. Also, remember that masks are required on the buses. We are taking every measure to ensure that your child is safe at school.  We will be cleaning every chance we get. Please encourage students to wash their hands as much as possible while they are at school.
