Planning period:

August 3, 2016

Dear Parents & Guardians,

I would like to welcome everyone back to school for an exciting year of learning. I will be your child’s math teacher this year. I am looking forward to working with your child and helping him or her have a successful learning experience.

Students will have a math notebook that will help him or her keep up with their work, notes, etc. and serve to keep you informed of his or her performance and progress. Students will be required to bring his or her math notebook to class every day. There will also be a place for you to sign showing that you have looked at your child’s work once a week, this will count toward extra credit at the end of each nine weeks. It is my goal to only have homework 2-3 times a week and for it to take no longer than 15-20 minutes for your child to complete it. All homework will count toward your child’s grade, so please encourage your child to complete their work. Students will have an opportunity to correct the majority of his or her assignments/tests, the corrected assignments/tests will count as your child’s grade. Your child will also be working with Accelerated Math again this year and be required to meet specific goals each week. Failure to meet these goals may result in detention.

Student behavior will be monitored using the bubble system, which has been implemented school-wide for several years. Your child has been given a student handbook that has all of the school rules and policies in it. Please take the time to go over the student handbook with your child. There are a few pages inside the handbook that need to be signed and returned to school. Students may have cell phones at school; however, cell phones should not be on or used at any time during school hours.  If a cell phone is brought to school, it must remain turned off and be left in the student’s backpack or locker.  If I see the phone, I am going to assume it’s being used, so please stress that it needs to be turned off and out of sight. Three unexcused tardies will now count as one unexcused absence for court purposes.  Attendance is taken at 7:50, which is when school starts.  If a student is not in class by 7:50, they will have to get a tardy slip from the office.  Students must also sign out through the office if they leave early.  It is important that your child be here and on time for school every day.

I know that by working together, your child will have a successful school year. Please sign the second page of this letter by Friday, August 12 and provide a phone number in case I need to contact you.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me during my planning time at 663-3700 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . My planning time is 7:50-8:35 daily.
