Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child to my second grade class this year!  This letter contains the homework policy and test schedule for my students.

Your child has a School/Home Folder which will contain all written correspondence from school.  Homework assignments, spelling lists, vocabulary lists, and updates about school events will be found in this folder.  Any papers in the right hand pocket of the folder should remain at home while any papers in the left hand pocket of the folder should be returned to school.

Starting Monday, August 8, on the first day of each school week your child will bring home a Classroom Newspaper.  The Classroom Newspaper will contain a list of the week’s homework assignments, the testing schedule for the week, your  child’s averages in each subject for the nine weeks, and your child’s behavior report for the week.  I ask that you read over the Classroom Newspaper each week and return the bottom portion of the newspaper to school with your signature the next day.

Each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday your child will have a Reading and Math worksheet to complete and return to school the next school day.  These pages should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.

Each night your child will have a reading assignment from the reading book.  Please have your child read the story we are reading in class with an adult at home each night.  You may take turns reading a page at a time to one another if you wish.  Accelerated Reading books may be read nightly.

We will have spelling tests on Wednesday and Friday of each week.  If your child makes 100 on Wednesday’s test, he or she does not have to take the test on Friday.

We will take a reading test on the last school day of each week.  This test will cover skills taught in class during the week as well as reading comprehension, phonics, and language arts skills.

Looking forward to a great year!
