Dear Parents and Guardians,

 

We would like to welcome your child to 4th grade! We are looking forward to working with you to make this a successful and productive year for your child.

 

Students will be rotating classes with four teachers this year. Each teacher will have different assignments and responsibilities, so it is very important that students stay organized.  You can help them do this by encouraging organization and good study habits at home. Students need to make sure to keep notebooks neat and orderly so they can stay organized in each individual class. Students will have one homework folder that will cover all subjects.

 

Our students will have homework every night.  Each student is responsible for getting his/her homework together every afternoon in order to take home. The homework assignments are posted on the board in each room. The students have to get all the materials they need to do each teacher’s assignment.  Teachers will not be checking to make sure they have what they need.

 

School begins at 7:50 a.m.  It is very important that your child is on time. If your child comes in after 7:50, they must sign in at the office before coming to class. For the safety and well-being of our students, parents are no longer permitted to walk the students to and from class. This is now a school-wide policy.

 

If you have any concerns about your child, please let us know.  Our planning period will be from 10:30-11:15 each day.  Call the school at 663-3700 to make an appointment.  We can also be reached by school email. Our school website is a valuable tool for you to use to learn about upcoming events, assignments/projects, etc.  Go to www.scottcounty.net and click on Fairview under the schools/facilities tab.

 

Stapled to this letter, you will find our classroom procedures and discipline plan. Please read over this with your child, then sign and return discipline plan.  Also, please sign and return the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pages of the handbook, as well as the registration forms.  Please try to have this returned to school by Monday.

 

With your child’s dedication to hard work and your cooperation, this will be a very rewarding learning experience.  Once again, welcome back and we hope to have a great year!

4th Grade Discipline Plan

Classroom Procedures

  1. Quietly enter the classroom.
  2. Put your things away at your assigned seat.
  3. Sharpen pencil quickly.
  4. Be ready to work and pay attention.

Exit Procedures

  1. Do not leave anything on the floor or in the rack of your desk.
  2. Gather all materials needed for homework and put in your folder/backpack.
  3. When dismissed by the teacher, have your things and desk in order.

Classroom Rules

  1. Be prepared for each class (books, paper, and pencils).
  2. Follow all directions the first time given.
  3. Raise your hand for permission to speak or get on the floor.
  4. Show respect for teachers (including substitutes) and classmates.
  5. Keep hands and feet to yourself.
  6. Follow all school rules while in class.

Discipline Plan

Fourth grade is using a positive discipline plan this year.  Students will be earning their recess on a daily basis.  Recess is a privilege and students with good behavior will have the opportunity to receive this privilege.  We will still be using the “bubble system” as a way to track behavior.  Students with two or more bubbles will be going to study hall at the end of the day.  This will be a time to work on extra assignments or even homework.  Students will have a chance throughout the year to earn good behavior incentives.  Some examples of our incentives are special snacks, extra playtime, movies, field trips, etc.

Consequences for receiving bubbles:

1st bubble—still receives playtime

2nd bubble—10 min. of study hall with an assignment

3rd bubble—15 min. of study hall with an assignment

4th bubble—study hall (entire period—25 min.), note sent home (parents need to sign and return)

Severe offense—sent directly to the principal
