Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to 3rd grade!

I am looking forward to this new school year. There are lots of new things to be learned and new friends to be made.

My goal for this year is to help your child to be an independent and responsible learner, as well as, to show him or her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will be regular homework and we will be making the most of our class time. My expectations for the students this year will be high. They will need to work hard and do their best.

Please, read over the next few pages with your child. These pages will outline the classroom policies, discipline, and answer some questions you may have about the school year. Be sure you talk about what is in the packet with your child. The last page will need to be signed by both the student and parent and returned to me. This page tells me that both the parent and student know and understand the rules, consequences, and expectations for this year.

I am glad you are all here and can’t wait to get started.

Ms. Teresa

What do you need to bring too school?

All students should have a backpack. This makes transporting school supplies and homework easier. If your child wishes to bring a toy or book from home to read or play with at recess, it needs to have the child’s name on it. This will prevent mix-ups and trades. Trading toys, books, etc. is not allowed at school. This happens every year. Please put your child’s name in their coats and jackets.

Class Website

The school has a website at On our school page, you will find upcoming events. We also have a Facebook page. If you would like to join search Fairview Information page.

Reading, spelling, and math tests will be taken on the last day of each week. Please, try not to miss it. Tests will be returned the following week. All tests will be sent home and have to be signed by a parent. If you haven’t seen a regularly assigned test by Wednesday, please e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Homework is mandatory. There are few allowable excuses for homework that is not turned in or incomplete. Spelling lists and multiplication facts will be giving on Mondays. Your child will have reading, math, and other homework every night. Homework will be put on I am sending home the information you need to join.  Homework not done will result in the following consequences:

ü The assignment needs to be finished.

ü 10 minutes will be taken off of recess for each assignment not completed.

ü A call will be made after 2-3 days of missed assignments.

Homework missed due to absence will usually be due the following day after returning to school. But of course, due to the number of days missed, workload, and the reason for the absence, the due date can sometimes be negotiable.

1. We will respect ourselves, the teacher, and all others inside

and outside of the classroom.

2. We will keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves.

3. We will listen to the teacher and follow all directions the

first time.

4. We will encourage, help, and not interfere with others’ and

our own learning.

5. We will do our best work

Every student will get a homework folder at the beginning of the school year. Please look in this folder every night. All of their papers they bring home will be in this folder. One side will be to bring back to school and the other side will be to leave home.

Changes in getting home

If there is a change in where your child goes after school or how he/she gets home, please call the office of send a note. Without that, I am not allowed to do what is out of the ordinary.

Please go over the Scott County Handbook with your child. Please return pages 5, 7, 10, 11 (if child uses an inhaler), 13, and 15(if child has a parent in milltiary). Please, fill in the bottom to let me know about arrangements for your child to get home.

I have read and understand the rules, expectations, consequences, and rewards that my child will be held to in his or her classroom.

Classroom Policies

Homework Policy:

Students will be required to read 20 minutes at home after school and complete a reading log with the date, title, pages read, summary, and parent signature. This reading log will be checked daily and a reading grade will be given for it every two weeks. There will be some math and spelling homework every night. If a student doesn’t do their homework they will complete it during recess on the day it was due. Students are responsible for completing their own work, not someone else. I encourage them to have help on their homework, but no one other than the student should complete homework assignments

Be Ready- Arrive on time. Class starts at 7:50. It is very important that your child is on time and at school every day. This just helps your child not fall behind. Have paper, pencils, textbooks, and homework ready.

Be Responsible- Make sure homework is completed and makes it back to school on the day it is due. Take care of their belongings.

Be Respectful- Show good manners, use kind words, and keep your hands and feet to yourself.

If you have any concerns about your child, please let me know. I’m here to help your child in this academic adventure. My planning is from 9:45-10:30. Call the school at 663-3700 or e-mail me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to make an appointment.

I would also like to express how excited I am to have your child in my class. I hope this will be a year of excitement and a positive learning experience for your child. With your child’s dedication to hard work and your cooperation, this will be a very rewarding learning experience.
